Wood Bikes - The New Hardcore



You've probably seen the above image - it's been making the rounds on the web and e-mail. I thought it was an amusing image and didn't think much more about it.

Today I came across an article by Kevin Kelly giving more detail about wooden bikes around the world. Referencing the above photo he explains:

These wooden bicycles are ridden in the Banaue region of the Philippines. During an annual festival celebrating the culture of the regional tribes, wooden bikes are raced by participants in native costume.

They race on those bikes?! Sorry single-speeders, but these Philippinos are the hardcore kings. Will there be a "wood" category in some future Intermountain Cup Race Series?
